Orlando Pirates could be set to add a ninth new face to their squad in this transfer window, with foreign reports suggesting the club has identified a Malian international as their next priority target.

The Buccaneers have already been busy in the market, securing the signatures of Sipho Mbule, Yanela Mbuthuma, Masindi Nemtajela, Tshepang Moremi, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, Tshepo Mashiloane, and Sihle Nduli — taking their tally of signings to eight.
Now, as part of defensive and midfield reinforcements following several key departures, Pirates are reportedly eyeing 27-year-old Sadio Kanoute, who is believed to have caught the club’s attention thanks to his robust presence and technical ability in the middle of the park.
According to Africafoot, the Soweto giants are considering tabling an offer in the region of €500,000 (approximately R10m) to lure Kanoute, who previously turned out for Simba SC in Tanzania.
Talks are believed to be intensifying, with both parties keen to reach an agreement.
However, Pirates would face stiff competition for the Malian’s signature. North African heavyweights ES Tunis and Zamalek, as well as Mauritania’s Nouadhibou FC, have also expressed strong interest in acquiring the hard-tackling midfielder.
Should the Buccaneers succeed, Kanoute would become the ninth addition to coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s squad as Pirates aim to mount a serious challenge in the upcoming campaign.
Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment on the Africafoot story, but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.
