The story
Kaizer Chiefs will conduct their 2025 pre-season training camp in the Netherlands next month, and as announced in a club statement, the Glamour Boys will touch down in Europe on 4 July and depart on 19 July, and will be based in the town of Apeldoorn, approximately 80 kilometres from Amsterdam.
The town of Apeldoorn might not have the same notoriety as its famous neighbours, Amsterdam, but the Amakhosi stars will be exposed to a place rich in Dutch culture and heritage.
As stated by Netherlands-tourism.com, Apeldoorn is best known for the historic Het Loo Palace, a 17th-century royal residence once home to England’s King William III.
The website mentions that the beautifully maintained formal gardens are a standout attraction, highly recommended for visitors.
For nature and wildlife lovers, Apenheul Zoo offers a unique experience, specialising in monkeys and great apes — which have the freedom to interact with guests.
When it comes to shopping, players can explore big-name brands and retail stores at Hoofdstraat and Oranjerie Mall, while those with a taste for unique finds should head to Asselsestraat for antiques, art, and alternative fashion.
For team building, Apeldoorn is home to one of five Klimbos (Climbing forest) Nederland venues, and players can enjoy an outdoor adventure park and navigate various courses high in the trees, such as ziplines, bungee jumping, rope bridges, and other challenging obstacles.
As for dining, Apeldoorn has a range of options ranging from fast food to local favourites like Moon Sky (Indian cuisine), and the eurocentric Grand Café De Notaris. For a fine-dining experience just outside town, Hotel Gastronomique de Echoput comes highly recommended.
Amakhosi, who will play five friendly matches against Dutch top-tier sides from both the Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie; SBV Vitesse Arnhem, FC Utrecht, NEC Nijmegen, PEC Zwolle and FC Twente.
