Speaking exclusively to Soccer Laduma, the iconic goalkeeper explained why the Soweto giants must spend big to secure a proven goal scorer, even after adding attacking options Ethan Chislett and Flavio Silva to their ranks in the current transfer window.
“Strikers don’t come cheap, let’s be honest,” Khune said.
“They don’t because strikers win you matches, and if you have a quality striker and a quality goalkeeper, you know you will challenge for a championship every season.”
“I think back in the days when coach Pitso took over Bafana, he used to be very hard on me and Katlego Mphela because he knew if I kept a clean sheet, ‘Killer’ would score, and we’d win 1-0. That’s when we even beat Egypt for the first time in a very long time because we had me in goals and a striker who could deliver,” Khune reflected.

The veteran shot-stopper emphasized that the right investment up front can transform Chiefs’ fortunes.
“You see, when you invest in a good striker and a good goalkeeper, you’re guaranteed you’ll be challenging for the championship,” he added. “So Kaizer Chiefs really need to go to the market and invest in a striker.”
