Gould On Saleng: 'He Needed To Let The Football Do The Work'

With speculation on whose terms was it for Monnapule Saleng to go out on loan from Orlando Pirates to Orbit College, former Kaizer Chiefs defender Morgan Gould has had his say.

Pirates confirmed the news on Wednesday that Saleng will spend the 2025/26 season on loan.

There are discussions on whether Saleng moving to the North West side is his personal request or if he has been banished to a loan deal of his choice.

The standoff between the two parties dominated football headlines since the Bloemhof native forward disappeared in December last year, allegedly for not being happy with his salary package.

Gould has suggested that Saleng's loan move to Orbit could the result of power play within the South African football industry.

"It depends what his contract was, he comes from (Free State Stars), he gets to a R70 000 as you say, but his problem is he foresaw himself one of the best players, the influence comes from outside, that 'You're the best player right now', you're not getting what you should be getting," Gould said on Switch On Network YouTube Channel.

"That's a wrong approach, for him to drag his feet, for me is not a player that is very much intelligent. If you drag your feet right now, what do you expect to come out of it? We're not living in a country where if you drag your feet there'll just give you your clearance.

"We're living in a country where they will show you that their power is stronger than yours, they'll shut you out from playing the thing that you love, football. He needed to let the football do the work but him dragging his feet, stick to the agreement, see the contract out, and then let's sit around the table," the former Chiefs defender added.

There is also a sentiment that Saleng could have requested a loan move to regain his confidence without the pressure at Pirates, after a long time out of the game.
