Nedbank Cup Report: Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila v SuperSport United

Result: Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 1-0 SuperSport United

Date: 04 February 2021

Venue: Thohoyandou Stadium

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila ended a 10-game winless run to defeat SuperSport United 1-0 in the Nedbank Cup on Thursday evening.

Kudakwashe Mahachi and Moses Waiswa were recalled by SuperSport head coach Kaitano Tembo while TTM were bolstered by the return of Alfred Ngengane, Meshack Maphangule and Joseph Malongoane, with Thabo Mnyamane given a rare start against his former side.

Vhadau Vha Damani had a strong penalty claim in the eighth minute after Keenan Phillips flicked a cross inside the box using his raised hand but the referee did not award the spot-kick.

Thamsanqa Gabuza had a great chance to break the deadlock for United just before the half-hour mark after a bouncing through ball by Mahachi but he scuffed his volley wide.

The pace of the game was going down in the closing phase of the first stanza, with neither side able to create clear chances and the sides went to the break goalless.

With the game was coming to life after the break, Mahachi found the back of the net for SuperSport two minutes inside the second stanza with a low strike at the back post after he was teed up by Sipho Mbule but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Mnyamane finally broke the deadlock for TTM just after the hour mark against his former side with a first-time strike at the near post that Williams could only help towards the far corner.

Evans Rusike came close to finding the equaliser for Kaitano Tembo's men in the last quarter of an hour after he controlled a ball from Lucky Mohomi at the back post but his close-range shot was smothered by goalkeeper Washington Arubi.

Rusike had another chance after going through on goal in the last five minutes but his low strike missed just wide of the bottom post, with the net gaping, before Ghampani Lungu squandered a late chance by volleying over the target to send TTM to the round of 16.
