Result: Cape Town City 4-0 Bloemfontein Celtic

Date: 06 February 2021

Venue: Cape Town Stadium

Cape Town City advanced to the Nedbank Cup last 16 with a 4-0 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday evening.

Tashreeq Morris was handed the nod to lead the attack for the home side as Bradley Ralani missed the clash through injury.

The first chance of the game fell to City. Charlez Zulu made headway down the left and whipped in a cross for Mduduzi Mdantsane from the left, but City's top scorer this season skied his half-volley over bar from close range as a glorious chance went abegging.

Soon afterwards, the Citizens survived a lucky escape when Craig Martin turned a cross onto his own crossbar.

Tashreeq Morris then went for goal on the turn from inside the box after receiving a pass from Mdantsane, but it was a difficult chance under pressure and he hit the side-netting.

There was a chance for Taariq Fielies to head into the back of the net, but his effort went off target and Mondli Mpoto was spared the duty of having to make a save.

Mpho Makola then unleashed a shot from just outside the box, taking the ball off the feet of Morris. However, he fired high and wide of the top corner.

The Citizens took the lead in the 59th minute after a lovely first-time finish from Morris as he got on the end of a Craig Martin cross from the right and poked past Mpoto for the opener.

The former Ajax Cape Town striker the bagged his second goa in the 68th minute after nodding home from a Fagrie Lakay corner to put the home side's nerves at ease.

Morris then turned provider and played a through pass and Nodada banged it home with a first-time finish for City's third as they put the game to bed.

Peter Leeuwenburgh then produced some heroics in the City goal as he ensured Jan Olde Riekerink's side came away with a clean sheet, before Morris completed his hat-trick.
