Chiefs Set To Host New Foreign Club

Chiefs Set To Host New Foreign Club

BLOEMFONTEIN, SOUTH AFRICA - OCTOBER 13: Medal Ceremony during the CUFA Cup match between Marumo Gallants and Kaizer Chiefs at Toyota Stadium on October 13, 2024 in Bloemfontein

Kaizer Chiefs' one-day football tournament appears set to return for its second edition, with plans already underway between the organisers and a major automotive sponsor.

Insiders close to both Chiefs and Toyota South Africa have indicated that Amakhosi are expected to continue hosting the Toyota Cup.

The insiders close to the club and privy to reliable information have added that the logistics about the tournament are as good as done.

"The Toyota Cup is definitely happening again this season. The two entities involved in the Cup, that's Kaizer Chiefs and Toyota South Africa made the commitment that it's not a one year and once off Cup. No. So, apparently they are just looking at the possible dates and the venue could still be in Bloemfontein at the Toyota Stadium. But it's believed that it's happening again this year," the source told the Siya crew.

Meanwhile, a second insider stated that the only other thing they are working on is which foreign team to invite this time around.

"Most of the logistics will be finalised when they find out which team will be coming to play against Chiefs in that Toyota Cup. It could be the same Yanga or another team. We are not sure at the moment. So they can not finalise anything until they first identify and agree with the team that will come. But the Toyota Cup is going ahead," the second insider revealed.

Last year was the first time the Toyota Cup was held at Toyota Stadium in what was coach Nasreddine Nabi's first game in charge, against his former team Yanga SC of Tanzania, which ended in a surprising 4-0 defeat for the Glamour Boys.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but there was no response at the time of publishing this story.

The return of the Toyota Cup represents an important pre-season opportunity for Chiefs to test their squad against international opposition, while also strengthening commercial partnerships. After last year's heavy defeat to Yanga SC, Amakhosi will likely be keen to deliver a more competitive performance, especially if Nabi's former team is invited back. The choice of opponent will be particularly significant as it may provide insights into the level of competition Chiefs are preparing for in the upcoming season.
