Five games, zero goals conceded. Kaizer Chiefs have turned the start of this Betway Premiership season into a statement of defensive intent, with Brandon Petersen standing tallest at the heart of it.

The Soweto giants have not conceded a goal in any of their opening five league fixtures this season. The last time they achieved such a run in the same campaign was back in 2019/20 under Ernst Middendorp, a season where they came within touching distance of the title.
This turnaround is even more striking when compared to last term.
In 2023/24, Chiefs were the final team in the league to register their first clean sheet, only managing one as late as 29 December on matchday 10.
Fast forward to this campaign and they are now the last side yet to concede a goal, underlining the reinforced structure in Nasreddine Nabi’s reshaped backline.
Central to that solidity has been goalkeeper Petersen.
The 31-year-old has become the first shot-stopper in the PSL era to keep clean sheets in each of Chiefs’ first five league games of a season. His assured handling and command of his box have provided the platform for Amakhosi’s defensive wall to hold firm.
With momentum growing and history already made, the question now is how long Chiefs can keep this remarkable run going?
