Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be prioritising reinforcements in the goalkeeping department ahead of the new season, following a mixed campaign marked by inconsistency between the sticks.
According to sources close to the situation, the Soweto giants may soon be offered the services of Nigerian shot-stopper Japhet Opubo, as part of their efforts to bolster the squad under head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Chiefs endured a turbulent season in goal, with Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Petersen, and Fiacre Ntwari all experiencing inconsistent form at various stages.
This instability contributed to the club’s defensive woes and is understood to be one of the key areas of concern identified by the technical team.
As previously reported by the Siya crew, Ntwari is said to be pushing for a move away from Naturena, which has further intensified the club’s search for a reliable goalkeeper ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
For months, Chippa United’s Nigerian international Stanley Nwabali has been heavily linked with a switch to Amakhosi.
However, new reports suggest that Opubo, who has quietly built a strong reputation in Nigerian domestic football, could also be in line for a potential move to the Glamour Boys.
“Japhet Opubo is a top goalkeeper who has proven himself in Nigeria over the past few seasons and he could be a good addition at a big club like Kaizer Chiefs,” a source close to the player’s camp revealed.
“His representatives are assessing options for him, and there is a possibility that he can be offered to Chiefs.”

Opubo’s experience and recent form have reportedly caught the attention of talent scouts and agents, with his camp eager to explore opportunities outside of Nigeria.
While it remains to be seen whether Chiefs will pursue formal negotiations, the club is clearly casting a wide net in search of a long-term solution between the posts.
