Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane’s future in professional football is hanging in the balance following a disappointing stint on loan at Richards Bay FC.

The attacking midfielder, who joined the KwaZulu-Natal outfit from Chiefs in January 2025, featured in just three matches and failed to make a single start in the club’s Betway Premiership campaign.

Initially, it was believed that Richards Bay were considering extending Mdantsane’s stay on a permanent basis. However, those hopes appear to have faded, with indications that the club has opted against offering the 30-year-old a contract.

Mdantsane is still contracted to Chiefs until June 2026, but his prospects at Naturena look equally grim. The former Cape Town City playmaker did not make a single appearance under coach Nasreddine Nabi during the 2024/25 season before being loaned out, and sources suggest he is not part of the Tunisian tactician’s plans moving forward.

“Mdu is in a tough situation because he has struggled for game time this season,” a source close to the situation told the Siya crew.

“He and the club hoped that the loan move would help him to revive his career at Richards Bay. But there too, he didn’t play as much, and now he finds himself in a situation where he is likely to be released. He won’t be going back to Richards Bay, and interest from his former club Cape Town City has died down. He will have to start from scratch and work his way to the top again,” concluded the source.

Once regarded as one of the most technically gifted midfielders in the local game, Mdantsane’s career has hit a sudden roadblock.

Having made a name for himself at Cape Town City with consistent performances and creativity in the middle of the park, his move to Chiefs in 2023 was seen as a step forward. However, his time at Amakhosi has been marred by inconsistency and limited opportunities.

As the transfer window opens, Mdantsane will likely be searching for a new club where he can rejuvenate his career.
