Big Season For Chiefs Defender To Prove His Worth

Big Season For Chiefs Defender To Prove His Worth

Given Msimango, right, has a big season ahead of him.

A Kaizer Chiefs defender is facing an uncertain future with game time being a concern going into the new campaign.

Amakhosi travelled to the Netherlands for their pre-season tour, but defender Given Msimango could not feature as he is making a return from injury.

Game time has been hard to come by for the former TS Galaxy defender and there is no guarantee that he will get many opportunities once he is fully fit to play, with Inacio Miguel, Zitha Kwinika, Aden McCarthy and the returning Rushwin Dortley to compete with in central defence.

Msimango has two more years to run on his contract with the Soweto giants, having signed a three-year contract from the Rockets two seasons ago. But there is concern over how much game time he has been getting, which could play a part in what happens at the end of June 2026.

Soccer Laduma understands this will be a big season for the defender to prove himself in the team, to see out his contract until June 2027. It's not going to be easy, considering how difficult it's been to get game time.

Last season, the 28-year-old featured 10 times in all competitions. And with Nasreddine Nabi seemingly preferring Miguel and Dortley as his central pairing, Msimango will need to work hard to get into the team and ensure he does enough to at least see out his contract at Naturena.
