The story
Some of the Betway Premiership's top stars have been doing their best to give back to their communities and hometowns during the off-season.
Both Mofokeng and Makaringe hosted winter football tournaments for their respective hometowns, with both geared at promoting youth football in underprivileged communities.
Mofokeng's tournament was hosted at the James Ground in Phelindaba, Sharpeville, making it his foundation's first tourney of his nature, which included various divisions, such as boys' under-13, under-15, under-17, Masters, Ladies, and Open.
The youngster's tournament was supported by brands such as Lucky Star, Rocco Mamas and aQuelle ViV, among others, in a festival of football that brought Sharpeville’s residents closer together.
Makaringe's tournament, hosted at the Vosloorus Stadium, was backed by FNB and catered to both girls and boys in neighbouring Primary and High Schools.
The mercurial midfielder, who parted ways with Cape Town City at the end of the 2024/25 season, was also supported by his former Pirates teammates, Phillip Ndlondlo and Thapelo Xoki.
