The story

It's been a busy day for Kaizer Chiefs as they've strengthened their attacking options by signing Congolese international Glody Makabi Lilepo from French club Valenciennes FC.

Lilepo is one of three new January signings announced by Amakhosi today, with the 27-year-old reserving some special words for his former club and ex-colleagues.

"My journey with @vafcofficiel is coming to an end and I want to express my gratitude for the past year and a half spent with you. Thank you to the club, the staff and my teammates for their support," wrote Chiefs' newest attacking recruit.

In 46 outings for the French third tier side, Lilepo managed seven goals and five assists. This season, Lilepo featured in 16 matches for Valenciennes, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

"Valenciennes will keep an important place for me. I have grown up, learned and experienced highlights and joys, like the adventure that led us to the semi-final of the Coupe de France last season, personal and cherished moments of happiness to my family, as the first year of life my daughter, but also the most painful and learning moments that make me the man I am today," wrote Lilepo, adding:

"A huge thank you to you, dear supporters, for your passion, fervor and unwavering support. Your energy has been a source of motivation and pride for me."

Hailing from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lilepo plays primarily as a right winger, and according to Chiefs' statement, he is "known for his ability to take on defenders—skills that are sure to excite Amakhosi fans."

With 11 international caps for his national team, the attacker has agreed to a two-and-a-half-year contract, which includes an option for an additional season.

Prior to his time in France, he played for Al Hilal in Sudan and AS Vita in his home country, gaining valuable experience in a variety of competitions.
