The story
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou celebrated his 27th trip around the sun on Saturday and was made to feel extra special in Amakhosi’s pre-season camp in the Netherlands.
Matlou was rewarded with a start in the Glamour Boys' third friendly on their tour, featuring in the middle of the park alongside Samkelo Zwane in a 1-0 loss to NEC Nijmegen at Sportpark De Passelegt.
After the encounter, the skilful midfielder was embraced by a fan wearing a Mexico national team jersey, holding up a sign wishing Matlou a happy birthday.
Matlou posted the clip on his birthday Instagram post, including behind-the-scenes footage from the camp, showing his teammates, coaches and Amakhosi staff presenting him with cake and signing.
The Glamour Boys have received a lot of support in their three friendlies so far, with the club's website revealing that more than 100 South Africans loudly supported Amakhosi during their match against NEC in Overasselt on Saturday.
Colourfully clad in Chiefs gear, the Euro-based Khosi Nation at the game were not only South Africans living in the Netherlands, but also Mzansi-born fans based in surrounding countries Belgium and Germany, with Zimbabwean Chiefs fans also in the mix.
