Following Nkota’s surprise switch to the oil-rich nation, it is believed that The Knights of Ad-Dahna are now attempting to prise another promising youngster away from Orlando Stadium.
The club are said to have returned with a second offer for Mofokeng after their initial bid was rejected. Whether the Buccaneers are willing to let one of their prized assets leave for the Gulf remains to be seen.
Despite his rising stock in South Africa, Mofokeng’s value would pale in comparison to some of the league’s biggest names. According to Transfermarkt, the 20-year-old is currently valued at €1.6 million (R33 million) — the highest of his career so far — but it is still some way off the league’s top valuation.
The most valuable player in the Saudi Pro League is currently Italy international Mateo Retegui. After a sensational season in Serie A, where he claimed the golden boot with Atalanta, Al-Qadsiah paid a whopping €68.2 million (R1.4 billion) to secure his signature. His market value is now estimated at €45 million (R928 million).
The league also features global superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Riyad Mahrez, and Sadio Mane. Yet, it’s emerging talents like Retegui and Portugal’s Joao Félix who are commanding top market valuations.
Felix, once heralded as a generational talent, has had spells with Barcelona, Chelsea, and AC Milan after struggling to settle at Atletico Madrid. He was heavily linked with a return to Benfica this transfer window, but Al Nassr swooped in at the final hour and paid €30 million (R619 million) for his services.
According to Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old is currently worth €20 million (R412 million), placing him ninth on the list of the league’s most valuable players.
