The Frenchman is set to take charge of Tanzania’s most successful club, bringing an end to his tenure with Algerian side Olympique Akbou, where he initially served as sporting director before returning to the dugout.
The East African nation becomes the latest in a long list of African countries where the 35-year-old has made a name for himself.
Folz has built his coaching reputation in countries such as Egypt, Ghana, Botswana, and South Africa, where he previously managed Betway Premiership sides Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu. Now, he takes on what is arguably the biggest job of his career as he prepares to lead Wananchi.
The Bordeaux native replaces Algerian tactician Miloud Hamdi, who departed Yanga after winning both the Tanzanian Premier League and Federation Cup, to take up a new project with Egyptian outfit Ismaily.
Hamdi will now look to steer the historic Egyptian club away from the relegation zone – a feat Folz accomplished in Algeria by keeping Akbou in the Algerian Professionnelle Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 campaign.

However, in Dar es Salaam, Folz’s objectives will be significantly loftier. He inherits a side that has won the Tanzanian top-flight title for four consecutive seasons. In addition to maintaining Yanga’s domestic dominance, he will be expected to guide the club beyond the group stages of the CAF Champions League — a hurdle they failed to overcome last season.
