Alger 'Looking' To Reunite Rulani & Mailula

Rulani Mokwena has reportedly urged MC Algers to sign Cassius Mailula.

Rulani Mokwena’s new club, MC Alger, are reportedly looking to reunite the South African tactician with striker Cassius Mailula.

The Johannesburg native is now in charge of the reigning Algerian champions, and it seems he has already begun identifying his transfer targets ahead of the new campaign. According to Dzair Tube, the 39-year-old wants to work with Bafana Bafana international Mailula once again.

In the Ga Molepo native’s professional career, no manager has worked more closely with Mailula than Mokwena. Their paths first crossed at Mamelodi Sundowns during the 2022/23 campaign and, following stellar performances for Ka Bo Yellow under the tutelage of the young coach, Mailula secured a move to Toronto FC in Major League Soccer.

However, in Canada, the pacey attacker struggled to establish himself as a regular in the starting XI. That paved the way for him to link up with his former mentor once more, this time at Wydad Athletic Club ahead of the 2024/25 season.

While at the record Moroccan champions, the two-cap international became an integral member of the team. But both have now departed Casablanca — Mailula’s loan spell ended after the conclusion of the FIFA Club World Cup, while Mokwena left shortly before the season wrapped up.

Now at the helm of Algeria’s most supported club, the former Orlando Pirates head coach is said to have urged MC Alger’s leadership to pursue the signing of the 24-year-old, whose future in North America remains uncertain.

Last season, Mailula registered six goals and seven assists in all competitions. Mokwena may now be hoping the South African forward can help elevate MC Alger’s performances as they look to win the league title for a third successive season.
