Cristiano Ronaldo Closes In On Lionel Messi's Trophy Haul

Ronaldo lifts 2016/17 UEFA Champions League

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has lifted eight trophies over the past two seasons, and is closing in on Lionel Messi's trophy haul.

The Portuguese can look back at two impressive years, during which Los Blancos became the first side to defend the UEFA Champions League title.

In addition, Real also won back-to-back UEFA Super Cups, added one FIFA Club World Cup, one La Liga title and one Spanish Super Cup. His UEFA European Championship triumph with Portugal rounded off two perfect years so far.

As a consequence, the 32-year-old has closed the gap on his bitter rival Messi when it comes to career trophies.

Overall, Ronaldo has now lifted 14 trophies since joining Real in a then world-record move back in 2009 – three UEFA Champions League trophies, two La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, two Spanish Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups and three UEFA Super Cups.

Furthermore, he won 10 trophies during his six-year stint with Manchester United – one Champions League, three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two English League Cups, one FIFA Club World Cup and two FA Community Shields.

The Portuguese Super Cup, in which Ronaldo didn't feature but was on the bench and received a medal as a Sporting player in 2002, rounds off his trophy cabinet, which now has 26 titles.

Messi, meanwhile, has won 30 trophies to become the most decorated player in Spain history – a record he shares with Andres Iniesta.

The Argentine has lifted four Champions League trophies, eight La Liga titles, five Copa del Reys, seven Spanish Super Cups, three FIFA Club World Cups and three UEFA Super Cups.

Unlike Ronaldo, the Albiceleste captain is yet to win a senior trophy with his national team, but did claim one U20 FIFA World Cup as well as an Olympic gold medal, which do not count as trophies in his senior career.

Messi still leads the chase with 30 trophies to Ronaldo's 26, but with the FIFA Club World Cup, La Liga, UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey still to be played for this season, the Portuguese could equal his rival's trophy haul by the end of the 2017/18 season.
