After 13 years at the club and 229 appearances, 31-year-old centre-back Phil Jones looks set to depart the Red Devils as a free agent in June.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 20-time English champions have decided they will not extend the Englishman's contract when it expires next month.

Jones joined United from Blackburn Rovers in 2011 as a promising defender rated highly by Sir Alex Ferguson, who famously tipped him to be the future of the club's backline.

However, injuries and a general lack of progress saw Jones stagnate and be more often than not used in a back-up role.

He has not featured at all since Erik ten Hag's appointment at the start of the season, and made just five appearances in the 2021/22 campaign.

Along with David de Gea, Jones is one the two last surviving members of the team that played under Ferguson, who retired from management in 2013.
