Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim pulled his punches in his assessment of his team following their Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town.

Amorim's side suffered a humiliating defeat to the League Two outfit in the second round of the League Cup. After going down 2-0, the Red Devils clawed their way back to 2-2 before losing 12-11 in a marathon penalty shootout when new signing Bryan Mbeumo failed to convert his spot-kick.
According to Manchester Evening News, Amorim apologised to the fans for the performance and said everything went wrong during the game against the Mariners.
"When everything is so important in our club, everything that happened is a problem in our club; we should do so much better. I just have to say sorry to our fans," he said.
Amorim said that he would reassess the team after the international break, and claimed that it was not important how the game was lost, calling Grimsby the better team.
Amorim claimed that he was responsible for the team's result but said the game was about deeper issues beyond the on-field performances.
"I'm the manager. It should be my job to understand what happened. Again, I'm really sorry for our fans. Let's focus on the next game. That is more than a result. That is the biggest problem in the team. I think it was really clear today," he said.
The former Sporting CP boss reiterated that there was a bigger problem at hand with the club and realised the need for a change.
"I would like to say very smart things and very important things. I have nothing to say. Nothing to say. That is the biggest problem also. To see the same mistakes and nothing to say in this moment. I'm really sorry for our fans. It's too much sometimes," he added.
"You cannot change so much. You cannot change everything in one summer. You need to win games. You need to not show this kind of performance. I think this is a little bit of the limit."

"I think something has to change. In this moment, we need to focus on the weekend, and then we have time to think," he concluded.
