The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reversed its decision to disqualify a team from the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The CHAN is just a few weeks away from kicking off. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in February but was delayed due to unprepared facilities. Now, with those issues resolved, the continent is ready to get the competition underway on 2 August.
One team that will be present is Congo. The Red Devils had originally failed to qualify for the upcoming CHAN despite defeating Equatorial Guinea in the competition's play-offs with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline, due to allegations that they had fielded an ineligible player, Japhet Mankou.
The Equatorial Guinea Football Federation lodged a complaint, and CAF’s Disciplinary Jury found the Congolese Football Federation guilty. As a result, both matches were awarded to Equatorial Guinea by default, and Congo were handed a $10,000 (R180 500) fine.
However, the Appeals Board has now overturned that decision, reinstating the original results and confirming Congo’s qualification for the tournament — consequently eliminating Equatorial Guinea in the process.

Congo will now compete in Group D of CHAN, where they are set to come up against defending champions Senegal, as well as Sudan and Nigeria, in what promises to be a highly competitive group stage.
