The Dr Patrice Motsepe-led CAF administration continues to make strides in empowering African nations and developing football across the continent. The Cairo-based body is now embarking on its latest initiative to ensure that all countries have the necessary facilities to grow the game.
Their newest programme, CAF IMPACT, seeks to grow the beautiful game for women and at grassroots level. The idea for such a concept first materialised in April 2025 during that month’s Executive Committee meeting. The federation has now released a statement detailing its intentions for the new structure, with part of the plan including each member nation receiving $1.6 million (R28.9 million) over the next four years. The amount could rise to $2.1 million (R38 million), but that would be contingent on achieving specific objectives.
“The CAF IMPACT Programme is designed to empower Member Associations by strengthening financial governance, fostering the growth of youth competitions, supporting football development and expanding on impactful community outreach initiatives,” part of the statement read.
“CAF Member Associations will receive up to USD 1.6 million over four years — a 60% increase from the previous cycle. These funds are intended to support: Women's football; Football development and youth competitions; School football programmes; Operational costs; Training, especially for coaches and referees.”
CAF’s secretary general, Vernon Mosengo-Omba, also stated:
“CAF and its President are ensuring that every dollar invested is used to develop African football. That means development with a special focus on Women’s Football and the Youth. With the CAF IMPACT Programme, a minimum of 50% of the subvention to Member Associations must be spent in these two areas.
