Many are of the belief the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner will join Los Blancos at the end of the season.
However, the Catalan giants are said to be planning a pursuit for a superstar attacker of their own, namely Erling Haaland.
The Blaugrana are currently still navigating their delicate financial situation, but with a massive influx of revenue expected to come in after the opening of their newly revamped Spotify Camp Nou, the Spanish giants now anticipate being able to afford the Norwegian in 2025, according to Mundo Deportivo.
It is claimed the attacker had a release clause of €200 million (R400 million) in his City, which was set to kick in at the end of this season, but after Pep Guardiola signed an extension with the Manchester club in late 2022, it is believed the clause will now only come into effect in 2025.
The same report suggests that Haaland's agent, Rafaela Pimenta, also has a good relationship with Barca president Joan Laporta.

Coupled with the fact that Guardiola's contract at City runs until 2025 too, Laporta is reportedly hoping to leverage these factors in order to land the 2023 Ballon d'Or runner-up's signature.
