FA Cup Report: Chelsea v Hull City 16 February 2018

FA Cup

Result: Chelsea 4-0 Hull City

Date: 16 February 2018

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Chelsea made light work of Championship side Hull City with a four-goal blitz in the first half steering them to a 4-0 win in the FA Cup fifth round on Friday.

The Blues made seven changes from Monday's resounding victory against West Bromwich Albion, with debutant Emerson the notable inclusion.

Brazilian international Willian who came off the bench on Monday, gave them the perfect start with a throbbing finish after cutting through goal before unleashing a sterling curler in the opening seconds.

Cesc Fabregas looked to double the lead at the near post after being played in by Willian from a corner, which David Marshall pushed away for another corner.

A delightful swift ball by Pedro set-up Olivier Giroud, who broke the offside trap but missed the target with the goal at his mercy after 13 minutes.

Willian orchestrated yet another move after running from his own half to set-up Pedro who got foiled by Marshall in the 25th minute.

An expertly fashioned ball from Fabregas landed at the feet of Pedro who finally beat Marshall with ease at that two minutes later, 2-0.

It got worse for the Tigers as the Blues grabbed their third. Willian collected from the middle and ran at the defence before seeing his effort skew in off the inside post.

Giroud finally got his first goal for the club after stemming home Emerson's cross from the left in the 42nd minute., 4-0.

With their backs against the wall, Hull were given an opportunity after they were awarded a penalty when Fabregas brought down Harry Wilson.

They failed to make use of the invite, with Willy Caballero pulling off the save from the spot to deny David Meyler..

The visitors remained undeterred thereafter and kept probing for a way back, but their finishing in front of goal left much to be desired.

Despite their healthy lead, Davide Zappacosta was looking for more and nearly found the fifth but his shot from the right sailed narrowly across the face of goal late on.

Danny Drinkwater also went close from a corner which ricocheted off the defence before Marshall stepped up to avert the danger, while Willian hit the post two minutes from time.

With a massive UEFA Champions League match awaiting them in midweek, Antonio Conte withdraw his key individuals such as Giroud, Pedro and Fabregas, as they join Leicester City in the quarterfinals.
