Manchester City extended their winless run to three matches in all competitions after drawing 1-1 with Newcastle United on Saturday evening.

Result: Newcastle United v Manchester City

Date: 28 September 2024

Venue: St Jame's Park

Mateo Kovavic came in for Rodri, who was ruled out for the rest of the season this week, while City talisman Kevin de Bruyne missed out once again.

The Magpies, who were without Aleksander Isak, looked lively in the early stages, particularly down the right flank where Keiran Tripper was getting a lot of joy.

While the Magpies were the happier, it was City who broke the deadlock on 34 minutes when Josko Gvardiol collected a pass from Jack Grealish before skipping past Dan Burn and firing past Nick Pope.

Newcastle did go close to pulling themselves level on the stroke of halftime but City goalkeeper Ederson produced a superb save to keep out Joelinton's powerful left-footed strike in the box.

Ten minutes in, the home side were awarded a penalty after Ederson brought down Anthony Gordon, who dusted himself off before calmly slotting home the equaliser with a composed spot-kick.

The Citizens had a chance to pull ahead with 15 minutes left on the clock as Grealish got to the byline before picking out Haaland, who was unable to steer his header on target at the far post.

With City pushing for a winning goal, Nick Pope ensured Newcastle walked away with a point as the goalkeeper produced a great reflex save to keep out Bernado Silva's powerful volley in the box.
