Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford continued their impressive form as they guided Manchester United to victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday evening.
The Red Devils were dealt a blow in the warm-up when Luke Shaw pulled out due to an injury. His place was taken by Diogo Dalot.
United dominated possession from the onset, but they found it tough to carve out chances in the final third, while Brighton were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure.
The hosts were eventually awarded a penalty on 25 minutes when Pogba was brought down in the box. The Frenchman took responsibility and slotted home with his familiar stuttering run-up.
Brighton could have found themselves level with ten minutes remaining in the half, but Glen Murray failed to hit the target from six-yards out.
As the half drew to a close, the hosts managed to bag a second goal as Rashford showed good skill to lose his marker before curling one to the far post.
Rashford continued threaten in the second half as he carved out a chance after 53 minutes by picking out Jesse Lingard, who sent his effort wide of the mark.
Brighton then pulled a goal back after 70 minutes when Pascal Gross reacted quickest to smash the ball home from six-yards to the visiting fans some hope.
The visitors threw numbers forward in search of an equalising goal, but the United defence stood firm as the hosts held on for a sixth straight league win.
