RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano has explained why he chose to join rivals Bayern Munich despite being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.
The French defender will join the defending Bundesliga champions next season after agreeing a five-year deal reportedly worth €42.5 million (R740 million).
There were reports that Manchester United and Liverpool were interested in signing the 22-year-old, but the defender was keen to stay in Germany.
"When FC Bayern gets in touch, you are really proud. It doesn't get much higher, especially when you've played in Leipzig before."
Upamecano will have a familiar face with him next season as his current manager Julian Nagelsmann will take charge of the Bavarians when Hansi Flick steps down at the end of the campaign.
"He's a great trainer," the centre-back added. "We're not thinking about the next season now, we're all thinking about this one, and we want to win the cup against Dortmund and top our best performance from the 2016/17 season."
