Zamalek Fans 'Calling' For Ex-Pirates Boss' Arrival

Zamalek Fans 'Calling' For Ex-Pirates Boss' Arrival

Zamalek fans reportedly urging club to hire former Orlando Pirates head coach.

With Jose Riveiro rumoured to be on the verge of signing for Al Ahly, fans of their arch-rivals Zamalek reportedly want another former Orlando Pirates manager.

Riveiro’s sterling job with the Sea Robbers, where he won a total of five domestic cups, has now seen him courted elsewhere, with multiple outlets alleging that he is headed for Al Ahly. The Spanish tactician was in charge of his final game for the club when his side beat Golden Arrows 3-0 earlier this week, and he is expected to jet off to Cairo on Wednesday.

While the Vigo native is expected to take over at the Club of the Century, the supporters of their bitter rivals Zamalek are also clamouring to have a former Pirates boss steady their ship.

After winning back-to-back league titles between 2020 and 2022, the White Knights are now destined to finish in third position for the third successive campaign behind Ahly and Pyramids. According to WinWin, they believe that Josef Zinnbauer is the man who can lead them back to the apex of domestic football.

Last season, the German tactician helped lead Raja Club Athletic to a historic unbeaten league campaign, winning both the Botola Pro Inwi and the Moroccan Throne Cup. The Schwandorf native has now returned to the African continent this season, this time with Algerian giants JS Kabylie, and is leading a potential title charge.

After losing his first match in charge of the Canaries, Zinnbauer is currently on a nine-match unbeaten run and tied on points with table-toppers MC Alger, although the latter have a game in hand.

The 55-year-old was linked with the Zamalek job earlier this season, but as the five-time African champions are currently on the lookout for a new permanent boss, fans are seemingly urging the club to reignite their interest in the former Pirates manager.
