Major Boost For Mudau & Sundowns?

Major Boost For Mudau & Sundowns?

MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA - JUNE 25: Khuliso Mudau of Mamelodi Sundowns passes the ball during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 group F match between Mamelodi Sundowns FC and Fluminense

What will be great news for Mamelodi Sundowns fans, after weeks of uncertainty surrounding a high-profile defender's future, sources suggest that discussions are finally reaching a conclusion.

Bafana Bafana star Khuliso Mudau, who had been notably absent from recent matchday squads despite his importance to the team, is understood to be close to resolving his situation and returning to full training with Sundowns. This is according to insiders close to the Brazilians and privy to information.
This update will be a very welcome resolution for the dressing room, Sundowns fans and the technical team for a quality player who has even received reported interest from Europe this year.

Since the two parties are believed to be close to an agreement, the defender is back at the club. Insiders close to the Brazilians have added that the technical team is expected to then make a decision as to when Mudau can be fit to feature for the team in an official match again.

"Mudau was here at Chloorkop last week before the team left for the Chippa United game, but he didn't go with the team. But now he is training with the team. He is back!" the insider told Soccer Laduma.

Meanwhile, a second insider stated that depending on what the technical team decides after training, they will determine whether he will get into the squad for the Orlando Pirates MTN8 semi-final game.

"I think now it will all depend on the technical team and his fitness. Yes, he could not train with the club, but as a professional, he had been training and keeping fit. (Going straight back into the team) That's the decision the technical team will have to make at the end of the day," the second insider told the Siya crew.

The Bafana Bafana defender joined the Brazilians in 2020 from Black Leopards, and the 30-year-old has proven to be one of the best right-backs not only in South Africa but on the continent too.
The Siya crew understands Sundowns had an option on Mudau's contract for a year's extension, which would effectively run to June 2026.

Soccer Laduma contacted Mudau's agent Steve Kapeluschnik and Sundowns for comment, but there was no response at the time of preparing this story.
