After the Tanzanian Premier League Board (TPLB) announced that the Kariakoo Derby would be replayed on 15 June 2025 after the original fixture on 8 March was postponed, Yanga's officials said they would not play against Simba again.
The Reds of Msimbazi refused to play the original fixture after they were reportedly denied an opportunity to train at the ground the day before the game.
According to Pan-Africa Football, Yanga's Media Official Ali Kamwe reportedly claimed that Simba 'ran away' from the game.
"Simba ran away from the derby March 8, they (Simba) literally ran away from playing in the derby, that is where the story needs to start," Kamwe claimed.
"We find ourselves in this situation of the derby not being played because Simba ran away on March 8," he added.
Kamwe questioned why Davids' team ran away from the game and revealed there was only one reason the club would change its stance.
"So as Yanga we want to know why Simba ran away. And if we get an answer to this question, we will change our stance and face Simba.

He continued: "Simba should come out and explain why. What was the reason to skip the derby? So if Simba comes out and says this is the reason why we ran away from the derby, Yanga is a team that understands, we will surely change our stand and face them on June 15, but for now nothing has changed, we will not play in the derby."
