Kaze On Silva: 'All Strikers Don't Need To Be Like Lewandowski'

Kaze On Silva: 'All Strikers Don't Need To Be Like Lewandowski'

DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA - JULY 26: Flavio Da Silva of Kaizer Chiefs and Emmanuel Antwi of Asante Kotoko during the Toyota Cup match between Kaizer Chiefs and Asante Kotoko

Despite not having yet played an official Kaizer Chiefs game for the club, certain quarters have prematurely questioned the capabilities of Kaizer Chiefs striker Flavio Silva, who the club signed during the preseason.

Amakhosi assistant coach Cedric Kaze has defended the striker, saying that although he is not like Thierry Henry or Robert Lewandowski, he has his own qualities.

Speaking to the media at Chiefs Village ahead of their Betway Premiership encounter against Polokwane City, Kaze stated that Silva is a good striker with his own attributes to help the team.

"I don't want to go on longer about personal players because we are here to talk about the game tomorrow which is very important but I will give you the facts about him (Flavio Silva). He is a player that scores goals at training. Maybe people think that all the strikers need to be like Thierry Henry or Lewandowski and have skills of dribbling. But it's a different profile (with Silva). It's a player that is in the box. With one or two crosses you will find him there. Whether there is a rebound in the box - you will find him there. Whether there is a shot - you will find him there. He is a player that has tremendous presence in the box, and we need players like that," Kaze told the media.

In addition, the Burundian-born mentor further stated that they are happy with the players they have in midfield at the moment.

"I will not hide and say I don't have players, but I will say that we have too many options in the midfield, and that's good for the team. There are a lot of games coming. But if an opportunity that is worth it then presents itself, we will then take it because we still have a foreign spot. But we will not fill it up for just filling it up, but if the opportunity comes then we will take it up," Kaze told journalists.

Silva has been playing in friendly games including a fixture in the Toyota Cup against Asante Kotoko, which Chiefs lost on penalties during preseason.
