The Tanzanian Premier League Board (TPLB) issued a new date for the derby game between Yanga and Simba that was originally scheduled for 8 March 2025.
The game was postponed by the Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) and TPLB over security and safety concerns.
The new date was set for 15 June at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium but Yanga has taken a firm stance regarding the rescheduled game.
According to Pan-African Football, a top Yanga official reportedly said the club would not honour the game as the club feels it should be awarded the match.
"As Yanga, we will not play Simba again this season," the unknown source told Pan Africa Football.
"We don’t have any league match left to play against Simba, our stand remains we are the ones who deserve to be awarded the match,” the club official added.
The source said it was the club's decision not to play against Simba.
"Our position has not changed even with the new date for the derby, the stand for fixture 184 remains; we will not play Simba," the official said.
"Nothing will move us to play the game against Simba. It is a club decision, and it should be respected."
The Reds of Msimbazi accused Yanga, the home team for the game, of not being allowed entry to the grounds to train before the game.
