Al Ahly, now managed by Jose Riveiro, announced the signing of Trezeguet ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
According to Transfermarkt, Trezeguet previously played for the Red Devils from 2012 to 2015 before making a move to Europe where he played for Belgian side Anderlecht, Premier League giants Aston Villa, and Turkish sides Kasimpasa, Istanbul Basaksehir, and Trabzonspor before making a return to his boyhood club on a five-year deal.
Speaking at his unveiling as a Red Giant player, Trezeguet reportedly said his return to Egypt was fuelled by a desire to win trophies with Al Ahly, Egyptian publication FilGoal reported Trezeguet saying.
"I’m extremely happy to return to Al Ahly — my home, where my football journey began," the former Villa star said. "I owe everything I’ve achieved to this club, and I’m looking forward to a new beginning and writing a successful chapter full of achievements."
Trezeguet said he had not planned his return to Al Ahly but felt it was the right time. He said he was focused on more than just the FIFA Club World Cup.
"Of course, it’s a massive tournament, and it's the first time it will be held under this new format. Every player dreams of taking part, but that’s not why I came back to Al Ahly. I’ve already played in the Club World Cup with Al Ahly, [I've] competed in the Premier League, Europa League, Champions League, and the World Cup with Egypt. I came back for Al Ahly itself — not for a specific tournament," the 80-cap international said.
