An Al Ahly star has pulled the curtain back on what it was like interacting with new coach Jose Riveiro for the first time.

Last week, the Spanish tactician was announced as the latest head coach of the Club of the Century, becoming the permanent successor to Marcel Koller at the Cairo International Stadium. The 47-year-old’s first assignment will be to lead the record African champions in the revamped iteration of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The competition has expanded its participating clubs to 32 teams, and Al Ahly have been placed in a group alongside the Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami, Portuguese giants FC Porto, and Brazil’s Palmeiras. The Vigo native has already gotten stuck in with his new charges, putting them through their paces in various training sessions as he looks to adequately prepare for the global spectacle by implementing his style of play.
Defensive midfielder Marwan Ateya claims that this was a point of emphasis during the team’s first meeting with the former Orlando Pirates boss, stating that Riveiro had revealed he has knowledge of the team, having previously played against them in the past CAF Champions League campaign.
"In our first meeting with Rivero, he introduced us to himself and that he wants to implement a specific approach. Every coach has his own approach and method, and we understood his approach before the Club World Cup,” the Egyptian international told MBC Masr.

"Rivero told us that he had watched and played against us before, and he told us that he knew most of the players on the team. He must have watched our recent league matches."
