During the Spaniard’s three-year stint at the Orlando Stadium, he helped many players progress, but perhaps the biggest star he developed during his time with the Buccaneers is Relebohile Mofokeng. The young superstar went from a fledgling DStv Diski Challenge alumnus to becoming one of the top talents in the country under Riveiro.
This season, the 21-year-old is regarded as a serious contender for the Premier Soccer League Player of the Season, and it seems that the Vigo native wants to continue working with the skilful winger.
According to Al Nahar’s broadcast journalist Amir Hesham, as per El Watan, during a recent Zoom meeting between Riveiro, Ahly chairman Mahmoud El Khatib, sporting director Mohamed Youssef, and a member of the club’s board of directors, the 47-year-old emphasised his desire to have Mofokeng join the club as well.
The Bafana Bafana star scored the winning goal against the Club of the Century during the group stage of the CAF Champions League in Pirates’ 2-1 victory in Cairo, and while it is believed that the young talent is a target for Ahly, the same report claims that Riveiro was told he is not a priority for the club.

The Egyptian Football Association is expected to raise the foreign player quota for the league to six players, and it is understood that Ahly intend to strengthen their defence by recruiting Algerian star Zineddine Belaïd instead of Mofokeng.
