Heskey was invited by Scottland FC's management to watch the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League clash between Scottland and Simba Bhora on Sunday 11 May, Pan-Africa Football reported.
Scottland ran out 2-0 winners courtesy of a brace by Michael Tapera and the former Leicester City forward spoke prior to the game to ZTV's Charles Mabika and revealed his excitement to be there.
"It has been an honour to come, I am hoping to see some exciting football," Heskey said.
"I am a guest of them [FC Scottland], so I will be supporting them. I arrived on Friday on a short and wonderful trip, and I will be back again,” the former Birmingham City striker added.
Following the game, the veteran was stopped at the airport and revealed in an interview at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport that he found the level to be interesting.
"The level of the game is interesting (and) still growing. The enthusiasm of fans is exciting; that is the main thing.
"I think you have got a lot of players playing outside of Zimbabwe who play for the national team. So it’s (level of football) going to grow in that way, but it’s about developing on grounds as well.
"The players have a lot of skill, a lot of pace, but yes, there is need probably for a bit more direction in structure.
"But they’re getting there. Like I said, things are not just built in one day."
The big striker revealed that he took up coaching at Leicester City's under-18 men's and women's teams as well as punditry following his playing career.
He also hoped that his two children, Jaden and Reigan Heskey, would follow in his footsteps and play in the Premier League.
