Egyptian publication FilGoal reported that Pyramids submitted an official request to the Professional Clubs Association to have their league match against Ceramica Cleopatra, scheduled for 28 May, postponed due to the club's involvement in the CAF Champions League final.
In the letter, Pyramids reportedly said it was confident that the match would be postponed as the side would be representing Egypt on the continental stage.
The club argued that 28 May was too close to the first leg of the CAF Champions League final, scheduled for 25 May, and was adamant their request would be granted to support Pyramids' CAF ambitions.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns do not have a match scheduled in the seven days between the first and second legs.
The Egyptian Football Association sent an official letter on Monday detailing the match dates for the final three rounds of the Egyptian Premier League, confirming that the Pyramids vs. Ceramica Cleopatra match will be held on 28 May.
According to Masrawy, a source revealed the difficulties in granting Pyramids their request.
"There’s an impossible reason stopping us from postponing the Pyramids match — Al Ahly will be playing at the same time," the source said.
"If we postpone for Pyramids, we’ll have to do the same for Al Ahly, but Al Ahly has no available dates left after 28 May."
