Orlando Pirates are set to bid farewell to head coach Jose Riveiro, who will take charge of the Buccaneers for the final time tonight when they host Golden Arrows in their final Bwtway Premiership fixture at Orlando Stadium.
As confirmed by the club, Riveiro has been granted an early release from his contract, which was originally due to run until June 2025, having agreed terms with a new club.

While Pirates have stopped short of naming his next destination, sources close to the situation have strongly indicated that Riveiro is heading to North Africa, where Egyptian giants Al Ahly are expected to unveil him as their new head coach within days.
“The plan is for him to jet out of South Africa soon after the match against Golden Arrows tonight,” a Siya source revealed. “Al Ahly want him in Cairo before the end of the week so he can officially take over and start preparing the team for the FIFA Club World Cup.”
The African giants are believed to be finalising formalities ahead of a public announcement, and anticipation is building across Egypt.
“There is huge excitement in Egypt right now. Fans and the local media can’t wait to see Riveiro arrive and start preparing Al Ahly for the Club World Cup,” the source added.
Riveiro, who joined Pirates in 2022, has enjoyed a relatively successful spell in Soweto, winning multiple domestic titles and steering the side to consecutive CAF inter-club campaigns.
His tactical intelligence and calm demeanour have earned him admirers beyond the Mzansi borders, with the Spaniard now on the verge of taking the next step in his coaching journey on one of African football’s biggest stages.
