An Al Ahly veteran has revealed he shared a strong relationship with former head coach Pitso Mosimane, who left a lasting impression during his time at the club.

It has been three years since the South African tactician departed the Cairo International Stadium, but it appears his influence continues to resonate with some of the players who worked under him.
Mosimane, who hails from Kagiso, took charge of Al Ahly in 2020 and immediately ended the club’s seven-year CAF Champions League drought by winning the competition that same year. He followed that up with another Champions League title in 2021 and secured a total of four trophies before stepping down from the role.
Veteran centre-back Yasser Ibrahim is among the current squad members who still hold Mosimane in high regard. The 31-year-old, capped six times by Egypt, spoke glowingly of his relationship with the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss.
“Until recently, I was talking to Mosimane and we had a good relationship. As long as the coach gives you confidence, you focus instead of 100%, then 200%,” Ibrahim said during an interview on Al Ahly TV.
Prior to Mosimane’s arrival, Swiss tactician Rene Weiler was in charge of the Red Devils. However, Ibrahim was less complimentary when reflecting on that period, admitting he had considered a move abroad due to a lack of opportunities.
"I thought about going professional on loan, and this is a legitimate right if there are teams outside Egypt who talked to me.

"I wanted to have a new professional experience, but when I spoke to the officials and they told me they needed me, the matter was closed."
