As the new season approaches, clubs across Africa are actively reinforcing their squads, investing heavily in new talent. This flurry of transfer activity has seen several teams’ valuations rise significantly in recent weeks.
Unsurprisingly, Al Ahly — the most decorated club in CAF Champions League history — top the rankings. The Egyptian giants did major business before the FIFA Club World Cup, bringing in big names such as Mahmoud Trezeguet, Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, and Zizo. Their squad is now valued at an impressive €44.6 million (R928 million).
Trailing closely behind are two South African sides. Last season’s Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns sit second, despite not making any signings during the current transfer window. Their current squad is valued at €34.9 million (R726 million).
Orlando Pirates follow in third place, having been one of the busiest teams in the market this off-season. The Soweto giants have secured the signings of Oswin Appollis, Sipho Mbule, Yanela Mbuthuma and Tshepang Moremi, boosting their squad value to €24.8 million (R516 million).
