Reports emerged out of Algeria that Mokwena was looking to bolster his squad with new additions, and Mailula was among the names on the list.
The two are no strangers to working together, as the duo first worked together at Mamelodi Sundowns. The pair were reunited in Morocco after Mokwena brought the 24-year-old striker along with him to spend a season on loan at Moroccan giants Wydad AC.
The relationship between the two appears to be a positive one, as now Mokwena looks set to bring Mailula to Algeria this time. After parting ways with Wydad at the end of last season, Mailula returned to his parent side, Toronto FC, but a move to Algeria appears to be growing closer.
According to 433Kora, MC Alger President Hadj Redjem has reportedly intensified negotiations with the Canadian side in the hopes of satisfying Mokwena's request to get his player.
The arabic publication reported that negotiations were entering their 'final stages' and Mokwena's eagerness to bring the former Masandawana star stems from Mailula's versatility to cover the striker and winger positions in the frontline.
Mokwena suffered his first setback as Mouloudia boss after star striker, Mohamed Bangoura, was reportedly struck down by injury, meaning the club is keen to add extra firepower to the attack.
