It was reported in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma that we could be interested in signing midfielder Cole Alexander from Polokwane City, as he no doubt resurrected his career at Rise and Shine following a dismal spell with Ajax Cape Town last season.
With names like Bernard Parker, David Zulu, George Maluleka and Reneilwe Letsholonyane all capable of playing in the number 10 role, is there really any room for more playmakers at the club?
I doubt we could accommodate a new playmaker, unless of course one or two big-name number 10s leaves the club - which is highly unlikely at this moment in time.
With the club interested in a player like Alexander, one could ask the question of whether the club is going for a player who is on-form, or if they are going for a player who could solve problems.
One of those problems is that of the strikers not scoring enough goals. Changing the playmaker, I feel, won’t help in this regard because if top quality players like Maluleka, Letsholonyane and Parker can’t assist you - then who can?
The striking department has its own problems, and we cannot blame our proven playmakers for the lack of goals. For this very reason, I feel we don’t need any other playmakers in the team, unless of course one of them leaves the club.
Do you agree?
