Aziz Ki: I Chose Yanga Over Chiefs Because...

Prolific attacker Stephane Aziz Ki has revealed why he chose to join Tanzanian giants Young Africans over Kaizer Chiefs.

Following his productive form in front of goal for the east African juggernauts last season, the Burkinabe has become a household name on the continent.

The Ivory Coast-born attacking midfielder finished with Golden Boot honours in the 2023/24 Tanzanian Premier League campaign, and also received the league's Most Valuable Player and Midfielder of the Season awards.

His performances under Yanga boss Miguel Gamondi are rumoured to have made him the subject of intense interest from Premier Soccer League heavyweights such as Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, and Moroccan clubs such as FAR Rabat and Wydad Athletic Club.

However, before Aziz Ki was a sensation in Africa and plying his trade with ASEC Mimosas, the 28-year-old was offered the chance to sign for the Glamour Boys.

Despite the interest from Chiefs, he decided to join the Jangwani Street giants instead, and he has revealed that the club's president Hersi Said played a major role in that decision.

"I know they [Kaizer Chiefs] wanted me, but once someone shows you respect [you also respond]," he revealed to FARPost.

"The president of Yanga came to see me in Berkane. I was playing against RSB Berkane in Morocco. And afterwards, they came to my family to speak with me in front of my family. For me, it's too much. You want me, and you just call and say, 'Aziz, I have this offer for you'.

"They came from Dar es Salaam to my family. For me, it's too much. You can't find 10 people like that. I appreciate too much. I was happy with this project, and the way it came, I was ready to come."

The 17-cap Burkina Faso international also cited the club's vision as another major reason why he decided to make his way to the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

"Yanga showed me the project. Until now I trust the project, I trust the president. I can say he's like my father. I can also see the project and the good work. It's not the moment for me to leave," Aziz Ki added.
