IsiZulu Football Commentator Set To Take The Jo’Burg Theatre By Storm

SuperSport commentator Reggie Ndlovu.

A SuperSport football commentator is set to show off his acting skills in a one-act play about a failed football star.

Check it out!

What's the story?

Reggie 'Mapensela' Ndlovu, a commentator who's worked on the biggest DStv Premiership games is swapping the studio mic for the theatre stage for his new one-act play, 'A Star I Never Was'.

The multitalented figure will tell a story of a failed footballer who lands up on the Johannesburg streets.

The play will premier next month with three dates. Let's take a closer look...

A Star I Never Was

South African football has many tragic tales of athletes who have lost it all or failed to live up to their potential... this play by Ndlovu will explore those themes and more.

The play has received social media support from Ndlovu's SuperSport colleagues, Stanton Fredericks and Teko Modise, as well as Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma.

As mentioned briefly above, this play is about a promising footballer who had everything going for him but blew it all and lands up begging on the cold Johannesburg streets.

This production, starring Ndlovu and is written and directed by playwright Thomas Mpoeleng. It has three dates at the Jo'burg Theatre from 9-11 November, tickets cost R100.

The versatile Ndlovu

As stated in a profile piece put together his alumni Durban University of Technology, Ndlovu had dreams of playing football growing up but also had a burning passion for the theatre.

After completing his Drama and Production Studies qualification, his big break came in a 2012 Kiwi Shoe Polish advert and also did work as a assistant director of well-know TV soap drama, Muvhango.

The isiZulu commentator, previously at SABC Sports, also had a cameo on a Leon Schuster film, "Frank Fearless."

If his enigmatic nature on the commentary box is anything to go by, theatre and football fans are in for a great show at the Jo'burg theatre next month.
