Pitso: Tau Can Go To Saudi Arabia

Pitso: Tau Can Go To Saudi Arabia

With his future as an Al Ahly player uncertain at the moment, Pitso Mosimane says Saudi Arabia could be a viable option for Bafana Bafana vice captain Percy Tau.

Tau has one year left on his contract with the Egyptian giants, and talk has been rife about what the future could hold for the 30-year-old.

His former coach Pitso Mosimane, who worked with Tau both at Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly has suggested that 'The Lion of Judah' could follow in the footsteps of Riyaad Mahrez, Karim Benzema, N'golo Kante and scores of other players who have made the move to Saudi Arabia in recent times.

"Percy has done exceptionally well for himself," he told the Siya crew.

"Everybody says, 'Coach. Why are you leading Percy left or right? OK. Where would Percy win the Champions League three more times. Player of the year, the best player in Africa… where? In Belgium? Playing for what in Belgium?

"The Belgian team doesn't even really do something in the Champions League. You know, so he's playing World Cup guys. He's got a bronze medal in the World Cup. You know, what does it mean? It means the third best team in the world. Not too many players will have that and not too many coaches will have those medals, so we've got those medals.

"Yes, I went to the desert and I navigated with him and now he's the king. And I could see, I know Percy from when he was coached by coach Rulani at the Under 19s, that's where I saw him. So he's got a good mind. He's a strong mind like Themba Zwane, they are special. It's more than talent, it's mental. Those are fighters. Those are the boys who you know, like Ronaldo fights at 37, still scores goals.

"So Percy is in the right space, he can stay at Al Ahly. Percy can come to Saudi, it is easy I'm there, I mean Percy can play with Mahrez and them and he can do whatever he wants. You know, if there's a team in Europe, it must be a team that he will play. Percy doesn't want to be sitting on the bench, he doesn't need it. He wants to play. I mean, he's 30 now, he needs to play and he also needs to make some money for his family. For his clan, for his brothers, children for the cousins, we must never forget that you have to pay the bills.  Because it's also nice to play for the team. A brand, a good name, then they can call you a legend. But at the end of the time, you've got nothing to show. You know how bad it is because these boys, when they retire at 35, they're still going to live until 70 or 75 maybe.

"And it's 45 more years without an income and it's misery. So we're missing that point. And then they say other players are not loyal. He must retire here at the club he started. Yeah, we want that, but can it cover the other things? Everything must come, then he can retire at the club that he really, really loves. Okay, but if that's not the case, then why is Mahrez leaving Manchester City? Why is Ronaldo leaving Manchester United? Why is Sadio Mane leaving Bayern? Come on, let's be straight here, let's be honest!" he continued.
