Four African Sides To Take Part In New-Look Club World Cup

FIFA have confirmed that CAF will have four representatives at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca will be joined by two other African outfits in the newly expanded FIFA Club World Cup.

The international inter-club tournament will receive a massive facelift starting from 2025 with the competition now set to have 32 teams participate in it instead of the seven sides which currently constitute its existing iteration.

The decision to change the Club World Cup to a competition hosted every four years as of June 2025 has been "unanimously approved" by the FIFA Council during the governing body's council meeting in Rwanda, Kigali on Tuesday.

CAF will now see three more of his representatives enter this new version of the competition, with the winners of Africa's Champions League from 2021 and 2022 already included. The next two winners of African football's premier club competition will join the north African giants in 2025.

"For confederations with four slots, the champions of their confederation's Champions League in the four-year period between 2021 and 2024 will be given a direct entry to the 2025 FIFA Club World," FIFA's statement read on their official website.

If a specific side wins two or more Champions League titles within the allotted four-year period in between tournaments, club rankings will take effect to decide the participant for the respective confederation.

FIFA has confirmed that talks are ongoing with confederations and prominent stakeholders to define a fair and clear calculation mechanism for the club rankings which will be utilised.
