Manchester City avoided an FA Cup giant-killing after coming from behind to defeat Leyton Orient to advance to the fifth round on Saturday.

Result: Leyton Orient 1-2 Manchester City

Date: 08 February 2025

Venue: Gaughan Group Stadium

Pep Guardiola handed debuts to City signings Nico Gonzalez and Brazilian defender Vitor Reis while Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush started upfront in place of Erling Haaland, who was left out of the squad.

The home side took a surprising lead after 15 minutes when Jamie Donley's shot from the halfway line hit the crossbar and sailed in off goalkeeper Stefan Ortega for the own goal.

It was Gonzalez who gave the ball away before the goal and his debut came to an end on 22 minutes as he was forced off with an injury and replaced by Bernardo Silva.

Silva nearly made the perfect impact for Guardiola's side ten minutes before the break but the Portuguese midfielder saw his strike cleared off the line by Donley.

However, City had to wait until ten minutes into the second half to find the equaliser as Rico Lewis' strike from distance took a big deflection off Abdukodir Khusanov and sailed into the back of the net.

Guardiola responded with a double change for the final 20 minutes by introducing both Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne for Nico O'Reily and James McAtee as they pushed for the second goal.

The changes paid off as De Bruyne bagged the winning goal for Man City ten minutes later by latching onto a pass from Jack Grealish before firing past Keeley.
