The UEFA Champions League gets under way tonight, so I thought I would take a look at five clubs deemed to be the favourites to lift the prestigious trophy.
PSG have competed well over the past few years, but seem to fade in the rounds that matter the most. With the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and new signing Angel Di Maria in their ranks, the French champions are bound to be a force to be reckoned with.
The last time the German giants lifted the trophy was in 2012/13, but since then they have largely been disappointing, crashing out in the semi-finals in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 editions. Pep Guardiola is under some pressure to lift the trophy and with the signings of Arturo Vidal and Douglas Costa this season, they may just do that!
Real Madrid have a new manager and after a disappointing campaign, they will be dying to make things right this time around. Rafael Benitez has, of course, won the trophy before and is usually very good in cup competitions. Los Blancos might have a real shot at a historic 11th Champions League title.
Last season’s champions are once again the favourites to lift the trophy. If they do, they will make history and become the first side to defend their European crown. With Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar in their corner, it seems only the sky is the limit for this team.
Who is your favourite for the Champions League?
