University Of Johannesburg Not Focusing On Coach Mandla Zwane

University Of Johannesburg Not Focusing On Coach Mandla Zwane

University of Johannesburg coach Mandla Zwane will not focus on the individual brilliance of Tshwane University star striker Themba Ndlovu in the repeat of last season's Varsity Football final this coming Thursday.

Ndlovu has been the standout performer in the first two rounds of Varsity Football this season for the defending champions and was particularly good last week in the 7-0 rout of the University of Fort Hare at the Davidson Stadium.

Ndlovu earned rave reviews for not only his double on the night, but also for his silky skills that have earned the youngster attraction from various Premier Soccer League clubs.

Zwane, though, does not want his charges to focus solely on Ndlovu for he believes the entire TUT squad poses a formidable challenge.

"We can't pay special attention to one player," the UJ mentor said. "We know the threat he poses, but everyone in the TUT team can stand up on the day and produce something. They a quality team. They the champions. Eish… it's going to be tough, but it's up to my boys to rise to the challenge."

The UJ side has already shown great character this season. After losing their season opener to the Central University of Technology in Bloemfontein, they bounced back with a hard-fought victory against a strong UP-Tuks side last week in Pretoria.

"It's always tough when you play Tukkies. We have history with them too, so the boys were very motivated to do well. I won't say it was revenge, but my players certainly wanted to redeem themselves after the hiding we got last year.

"I am hoping we take that same motivation into the TUT game because we lost to them in last year's final. We will give them the respect they deserve, but the standard at UJ is always high and the players know a lot is expected of them."
