Gerrard's men were looking to widen their gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table when they took on Hamilton Academical at Ibrox.

Rangers were in a rampant mood and found themselves 3-0 up after 19 minutes.

With the match all but sealed, Gerrard introduced Zungu, who was an unused sub in three of Rangers' last matches at the halfway mark with the score line at 4-0.

The 28-year-old looked sharp and was his dominant self as he introduced himself to his new teammates, his manager and the club's passionate supporters with a sublime second half display.

Rangers went on to register four more goals in the second half and Gerrard was full of praise for the Bafana Bafana midfielder after the game.

"Yeah look we were comfortable when he came into the game, but it was about the second half performance that demanded a top performance and standard at half time and all the way through. I wanted more goals and Bongani came on and kept us balanced behind the ball and kept us ticking on. He showed us his range of passing, his aggressiveness and his profile, so he's only going to get better and better with time," Gerrard told Rangers TV after the match.

Zungu, who has been reinstated into the Bafana Bafana squad after a brief period away from the squad, will make his way to the country, where they will prepare to face Sao Tome e Principé in back-to-back AFCON qualifiers.
